What is Body Bright Families?

Body Bright Families is a component of the Butterfly Body Bright program. It helps families of primary school age children to foster a positive body image alongside healthy attitudes and behaviours towards their body, eating, and physical activity in their home.

Body Bright Families offers free resources to help ALL families and children to BE:

  • Brave - against appearance teasing

  • Resilient - to unhelpful media messages

  • Inclusive - of all bodies

  • Grateful - for our bodies

  • Happy - from joyful movement

  • Thoughtful - with eating

Why is this important?

Children who feel good in their body and feel good about themselves are more likely to have good self-esteem, be self-accepting, and look after their body through healthy eating attitudes and enjoyment of physical activity. Promoting a positive body image is important for ALL children of all body shapes, weights and sizes, so they can thrive at school and life.

Body Bright Families aims to help you build a solid foundation for your child to develop a positive body image, and healthy attitudes and behaviours towards eating and physical activity.

Why should my family get involved?

Body image develops early in life. Families play a vital role in helping children form an accepting and positive relationship with their body, and establishing healthy attitudes and behaviours about eating and physical activity – that they can take with them through life.

Body Bright Families provides you with information and important messages and tips across the six Body Bright themes, that will complement the Butterfly Body Bright messages your child receives while involved in the program at school. It’s important that children receive consistent and positive messages in all their environments, so that they can thrive in school and life.

How can I get my child’s school involved?

If your child’s primary school is not registered as a Butterfly Body Bright School (yet!), you might like to share information about the program with your child’s teacher or the decision makers at your school.
